Description

I have an annoying problem with licq v1.0.3. A friend with ICQ200b (it shows up in the network log as v7) sent me a message while I was offline, and now every time I log onto ICQ I recieve a copy of this message. What can I do to stop this?

I would like this cured myself. For extra annoyance factor, I have now _three_ different offline messages I receive every time I log on.

Same guy as posted yesterday about having 3 messages, here. Now I have a whoopping 7 messages and it is getting really awfully annoying.

What I posted because of is to say that logging into ICQ from Windows using Mirabilis ICQ99a didn't help either, they cumulate there also. Maybe it is a Mirabilis network problem rather than a LICQ problem?

I think I just found out what's the problem... The messages get deleted when you don't log in in invisible mode. I tried running LICQ 1.0.2 and 2000b (with a different user) simultaneously and I noticed that the "invisible" and "visible list" feature of LICQ do not work anymore. That probably has something to do with the deleting of the offline messages. It seems that Mirabilis changed something about the protocol.

i've got the same problem, but since now i receive something like 10-20 messages every time i log in i cannot use licq no more until this bug is resolved... if somebody else suffers this i think that it should be given priority 8...

i've got the same problem :( keep getting 3 offline msgs everytime....

hope it's a problem with mirabilis network...and not Licq.....

Ok, I've searched around on the net and there is no mention almost anywhere else. Remarkably, the Miranda-ICQ bugtrack is full of messages on this issue.

It seems to be ICQ network related.. maybe there was a subtle change in the protocol recently? I don't know what to say, but I can say it is grating on my nerves extremly now. (I'm the one who posted about having 3 messages, then posted again with 7.) Now I have 14 (!!!) messages, and with my usual online habits I receive them about thrice a day.

Nothing has frustrated me as much as this in my computing life for several years now.

by the way...... i tried using kxicq.....just to see if different clients have the same problem........and guess what......... kxicq doesn't have the problem...... i hate to say........but i suspect....problems on the licq end....

Ok, logging in with Mirabilis ICQ99a does not help at all; I was invisible when I tried it the first time and read one must not be for the messages to be cleared (although it did puzzle me as to what difference that would make).

However, I finally found peace. The alpha version of the applet client of Mirabilis at www.icq.com/icqwebbie/web.html correctly clears the offline messages.

In other words, our friends at Mirabilis have changed the protocol slightly - so we need a new version of LICQ.

Anyone who can - _please_ raise the priority on this bug!

is it possible that this message got ignored by the developers? possible that they don't rise the priority! simply licq doesn't work know! i can't receive 30 messages each time i log in and that's it for everybody! at least a message like "we are working on it" should make us happy...

I have the same annoying problem. A friend using a Mac (unofficial) version of ICQ is having the same problem. I'm currently recieving about 7 messages every time I start up. As I use this every day at work it can't but get much worse. A quick workaround in the meantime would be greatly appreaciated.

This problem just appeared for me a few days ago... so far I'm up to 1 authorization request, 1 'added to contact list', and 1 message. It's really annoying :-(

Also, my client tends to disconnect/reconnect every few mins (I'm suspecting my NAT entry disappears, I just haven't gotten around to tweaking that), so if I walk away for a couple hours, suddenly I have about 30 messages waiting... all the same one.

I was having the same problem with undeleted messages but found that logging under Windows ICQ2000b deleted them once read. The problem I am having with Licq now is it is unable to reslove icq.mirabilis.com so I am at the point that I can't even log on. I do feel that it is a problem steming from ICQ making changes that are not compatable with Licq but my programing skills do not allow me to even suggest a fix

hi folks, it looks like it's up to us to fix this... does anyone out there know how the icq protocol works in case of offline msgs? i suppose, the icq server saves these msgs in a database until it gets informed of the recipient going online. but what now? it sends a udp multipacket to the client, containing all offline msgs, auth'req's and so on. then the network window says:

13:47:16: [UDP] Acknowledging system messages (#14954)... 13:47:16: [UDP] Ack (#14954). (its quite stupid that you can't see if it's the client or the server writing which line, but i think, 1st line is my client snding its ack and 2nd line is the server ack'ing that.) so it doesn't look like licq is forgetting to send something, since it's up to the server to delete the entries from its database, once the ack' arrived...

what do you think?

btw: annoyance level getting pretty hi too, here...

well... due to this bug i do not use icq anymore... and i think licq developers (if they exist at all) don't use licq, or they would have corrected immediatly this bug...

ok if u want i can try to help fixing this, but be aware that i know nothing about the icq protocol, nor about licq...

anyway it's a pain speaking in this forum, i'd like to set up something like a mailing list...

Actually, I don't think this is an licq bug, it's a bug in the icq servers...

a) The messages seem to be removed eventually, just takes a while b) Friends using old copies of the mirabilis client (such as icq98/99) have the same problem... but logging in with icq2000 seems to clear all of them (and then they can log in with the old client again). If someone figures out the new icq2000 protocol, then we might have a chance :/

I receive it to, but I've got little different condition. I receive this messeges (3 constant messages) if I crash my X windows an licq doesn't close properly. If I close my licq 1.2.3 properly, then in next login all will be ok and I receive this message only if I, for example, press ctrl+alt+backspace an after that login again. But I haven't this problem in licq 1.2.2 from daily snapshot (sorry, I don't remember it's date. I downloaded it about 3 weeks ago). (Sorry for my english).
