messages are being cut after umlaut (ä,ü,ö,ß) giving following error message:
Error encoding UTF-16 from ANSI_X3.4-1968

Iam using latest debian (sid) package of licq.

I guess that means you are using version 1.3.2? Please include version number in future bug tickets. If I remember correctly his bug has been fixed in 1.3.4, please upgrade. I cannot reproduce it with the current SVN version either.

This problem has been reported in #1418 as well. I'm closing this as a duplicate. The problem needs to be further examined.
