Stray messages in MSN conversations

Description
Today I got a stray MSN message from another Licq user. This seems to happen when the other MSN contact gets a "Foo joined the conversation" info. However, I did NOT join his conversation.
Then when the other person sends a message, it is directed to ME, and not to HIS conversation partner. I cannot reproduce this well, since I have only 4 MSN contacts. But I too occassionally see "Foo joined the conversation" messages. When and how are conversation joins triggered?
