retrieving away message doesn't work

In most cases retrieving the away|not available|occupied|whatever message results only in an empty window with "[error]" in the window title. In the network window the message "socket not connected" (or something similiar, I'm using the german version) is shown.

which version do u use? i think it's a problem with the protocol and the 1.2.0 version. don't know if it's fixed in the 1.2.1 version cause i can't install it on my mandrake 9.0 box. the qt plugin can't find qt >= 2.2.2 hhowever 3.x is installed.
