History can be saved in many different encodings

Hello,

My friend sent me a message using UTF-8. But my encoding was set to something else (chinese). When I changed the encoding to UTF-8, the message was correctly displayed using UTF-8, but the top pane which shows the message summary was not updated, and still shows (bogus) chinese characters instead of UTF-8.

The items in the history are stored in the codec given at the time. This will be changed to UTF-8 at sometime in the future hopefully. At the moment, this is a known problem.
