Buddys see me offline even if i am online

Description (last modified by erijo) (diff)

This problem applies to the stable version 1.3.0 and the CVS snapshot as of 2005-03-11. Version 1.2.7 works fine.

My configuration is LICQ using Suse Linux 8.0 behind a Firewall with a HTTPS proxy. I can connect normally and see all my online buddies just fine. BUT - my buddies see me as offline, even if i am online. I can chat with them anyway and it is one of them reported, that he receives a "user is online" notification but my status stays offline. My buddies use LICQ 1.2.7 and Miranda.

Digging a bit around trying to localize the problem i noticed that while chatting with my buddies every message send be *me* to one of my online buddies creates a "user is offline - message gets transfered later" warning by the server in the LICQ network log. They receive my message immediately though.

The log shows no warnings/errors when i (successfully) login. Dont hesitate to contact me if I can help to locate the bug (i suspect it is a bug).

I can confirm this problem on Debian/unstable, version 1.3.0 and a direct internet connection. Buddies using LICQ, GAIM or ICQ see me always offline. A Buddy using Kopete sees me online.

I confirm this also with newest cvs. Direct connections are impossible and others see me always offline. I'm behind a router with port-forwarding to my computer. In the LOG I can find Messages like: "spoofing connection from 192.168.0.1" or something else, sorry I 've no time at moment. cu

I've the same problem with Licq 1.3.0 on Debian/Sarge. I'm always offline to others, especially when I'm online... :-( Indeed this is a very strange behavior of licq and it also starts to suck a bit. The log and the networkmonitor said it's all ok but this can't be true. With the hope that somebody will have an eye on this soon,

Can you guys try doing this:

Right click one of the users that can't see you as online, and go to the Send menu and then click on "Send Authorization". Have it sent and see how if they are able to see you as online now. I haven't had this problem at all, so it is a little hard to reproduce from my end. Do other ICQ clients give you this problem as well?

jepp, same here behind proxy with gentoo and licq-1.3.0 ... kind of sucks, because the sence of ICQ is lost if nobody ever sees u online ;)

The protocol has changed at some point, and now you are required to authorize the user's that can't see you. If you send authorization, it'll be fine.

Ok, i tried and reinstalled licq v1.3.0 (current CVS does not compile for me). For any strange reason my buddies see me online now (i did not change a thing) BUT if i send a message to one of them the network log still states that this message is send to an offline user (but he *is* online). Sending authorization does not change anything.

I do not believe sending authorization is the correct solution anyway. I really doubt there was a protocol change, since licq v1.2.7 still works fine and any other ICQ client (e.g. miranda) using my server based contact list works fine too (i did not test it behind the firewall here though). And most of my buddies are authorized anyway since they where originally added using the official ICQLite client.

I still believe there is a bug that was introduce with the multiprotocol-support changes for v1.3.0. I dont know how I can help to locate it though. I switched back to v1.2.7 for now.

I have the same problem using licq 1.3.0 on Suse 9.1. Others see me always as offline and it doesn't seem to matter which client they use. Some use trillian, some licq (older version) and others icq. It doesn't change if I send them authorization. One buddy using icq 2003b can see me nonetheless. If I put them on my visible list they can see me as online (normal online status) but those can see me as invisible then as well.

Well, since I am unable to reproduce this issue it is difficult to fix. I would like to have somebody get a complete packet dump (using ethereal) of their login process. Please save the ethereal file and send it to me privately becuase it will contain your PASSWORD. If you don't want me to see the password, remove the first packet you send to the login server. I probably don't need to look at it anyways. My e-mail address is jon@…

Hi,

I am experiencing the same problem. Other contacts (which were added to my list by ICQ years ago) don't see me at all when I go online/ away. So I have to send them a message to get their attention.

(Version 1.3.2/ QT-plugin 1.3.2/ running on Debian Testing)

I think this is not the point/another point. (But this problem happens to me also -> I gave up signing in as invisible)

The point here is: If you login as normal, in online-mode, some or all users in your list won't see you online, except the users on you "visible-list". One of my buddies (using ICQ Lite 5.1) told me, he received an online note (not enabled by default) but I didn't went online. Even if I send messages, which he receives, I still appear offline to him. After adding him to my visible list I went online on his icq.
