history browsing: missing essential features

Description (last modified by erijo) (diff)

what controls are there? [prev] [next] [ ] reverse find

now, i'm crazy, so i want to view the very beginning of the history. how can i do that? push "prev" all day long?

or the really crazy stuff - i search for some text, and i want to see the _surrounding_ messages. (grepping the history file doesn't count) the search only shows the matching messages, without any way to get to where it is in the whole history.

i have some really huge histories, and i occasionally have to look up stuff in them, which is really, really awkward. as it is, your history browser is only good for browsing a single page, and even that could use improvement.

please consider adding this, at least: [first] [last] seek to date and an option to seek to a selected message among search results. (or immediate seek with "find next/ find prev")

This will be changed to a feature request. The history does need improvement and is on the TODO list. It is very slow for large histories and there are the items that you mentioned that I would like to address.
